As many of you know by now, I’m a huge baseball fan, and even a bigger Giants fan. I love this time of year. I spent a wonderful weekend in SF just over a week ago, and renewed my passion for Giants baseball. The Giants are really on a roll, ever since they traded popular Catcher Bengie Molina and inserted Buster Posey into the starting lineup, they have started to score runs and play much better ball. It’s not Molina’s fault, hell he was a great guy for them for about 3 years or so. A great guy in the clubhouse and a good teammate.
The Giants are really making a good run on the San Diego Padres, who have been leading their division all season long, and have the best record in baseball. As of this writing, the Giants are only 3 games back now, thanks to some timely hitting, catching and the overall play of their new Catcher. This kid Posey…… man he’s something special to watch. Rarely do you see a rookie, especially a rookie Catcher jump into the lineup and take over a club the way he does. This youngster as of this date is hitting around .356 or so, with 8 HR’s and a boat load of RBI’s in his short major league career. Hell, they’ve even inserted him into the # 4 or cleanup slot in the lineup. A spot normally reserved for the best hitter on the team. When they did that, I just waited for the pressure to get to him, to see him overswing or try to do too much. Being the cleanup hitter for any team is a lot of pressure. But he just started hitting doubles into the RF gap and I continue to be impressed. Impressed by his poise. His poise in
not only hitting the ball, but the way he’s handled the pitching staff so far. I rarely see them shaking him off, which tells me he knows the pitchers and he’s already doing his homework on the NL Hitters. Poise indeed. Oh… I forgot to mention he appears to have a howitzer for an arm. So…. the early book on Buster Posey is in my opinion…. Rookie of the year….. but I’m just a bit biased……. But really… this kid is very special.
Watch this clip on just a few of his early career highlights.
